List Of Amendments

 

From 1791 to 1992, a total of 27 Amendments have been made to the US Constitution. Here is a brief list of all the Amendments that have been done to the Constitution until now.

List of Amendments:

  1. Freedom of speech, press and religion given to the citizens.
  2. Citizens have the right to possess arms for security reasons.
  3. No one is allowed to house soldiers either in peace time or during war, but only in a manner approved by the law.
  4. The government cannot search a home, and seize papers and belongings of a citizen unreasonably.
  5. No one can be held accountable for a crime without the impeachment of a Grand Jury. Also, no one can be punished for the same crime twice.
  6. Every citizen has the right to a speedy and fair trial
  7. Rights of trial by Jury to be preserved in civil cases
  8. No infliction of excessive fines, cruel or unusual punishment.
  9. Rights in the constitution shall not be interpreted to deny or belittle other rights held by the people
  10. Powers delegated to the State and the people.
  11. Sovereign immunity awarded to States from Judicial power of the government.
  12. Terms to choose the President and the Vice President
  13. Slavery abolished.
  14. Citizenship given to all born and naturalized in the United States.
  15. Voting rights given to all.
  16. Power to collect income tax by the Congress.
  17. Election of Senators by popular vote.
  18. Prohibition of sale, manufacture, transport, import and export of liquor prohibited.
  19. Voting rights of women established.
  20. Clear sketch of presidential and congressional terms.
  21. This Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment by ending prohibition.
  22. Limits of the presidential term.
  23. Presidential voting rights granted to the citizens of the District of Columbia.
  24. Barring of poll taxes.
  25. Clarification on Presidential Disability and Succession.
  26. Voting age set to 18 years and above.
  27. The final Amendment put a cap on the pay given to people working in the Congress.
