However, in order to extend this healthcare, it requires funding. While it is proclaimed as a free healthcare, it is still under the purview of the government. Thus, to pay for the treatment of those who are uninsured or under-insured, money is required, and this could lead to raising of taxes. Paying higher taxes is not always welcomed by people, especially when the money will be used for someone else's treatment.
But the other pro of the universal health care system is that it helps in reducing the costs of treatment and other associated costs, such as fees of the hospital and even premiums paid to the insurance provider. Today, the scenario in the US is that healthcare costs are high. This can be tackled with the universal healthcare system as the government will be regulating it and thus, it will work towards reducing the overall costs for a particular treatment.
In countries where this system of health is followed, the professionals working in the healthcare industry are taken as government workers instead of private workers. So, these healthcare professionals are paid via the government and also their monies are controlled by the government. Hence, this does away with competition as no longer do the healthcare professionals have to vie to attract patients. This could affect the number of people who want to join the medical field. Also, a person will be unable to select the best professional as he or she will not be able to check out the professional's abilities and successes.
