According to the United States traffic laws, speedy driving is a serious violation of traffic rules that could even end up in punishment. Whenever any person is caught by a traffic police officer while driving at a speed higher than the prescribed limit, he is issued with a traffic ticket or a speeding ticket.
Once a motorist is issued with a traffic ticket, he should approach the local judiciary within ten days with a plea of guilty or not guilty. Local judiciary includes the local court where the violation of traffic rule has taken place. If the motorist pleads guilty, a monetary fine is imposed by the courts of law which he needs to pay in full within a stipulated period of time.
However, the real problem comes when a motorist does not pay a speeding ticket. Usually courts in the U.S. are quite severe towards enforcing laws. The most obvious penalty for not paying a speeding ticket is cancellation of driving license, without which life can become difficult. Some states have the option of paying a lesser amount towards speeding ticket. However, this option is only available with an obligation that the motorist would attend a traffic school. Another damage caused due to unpaid traffic ticket is paying the traffic school fees. Apart from this, other damages include loss of valuable time that could be spent with the family, increased insurance rates and problems at work.
If the motorist pleads not guilty of the offence, a trial date is announced by the court. On this date, the motorist along with his lawyer and the ticketing officer are required to be present. However, motorists have be pay for the attorney’s fees, which is another loss due to not paying a speeding ticket.
